How a couple in Endicott sold their house of 21 years and made it to North Carolina

The situation

A couple had owned their house in Endicott for about 21 years. Then his wife got a job offer in Raleigh, North Carolina, and she was moving in two weeks.

That left him with the house. He didn’t have the time to list it with a realtor and wait. And he’d had spinal fusions and hip replacements, so cleaning out two decades of a house wasn’t something he could physically do. He told us he was overwhelmed by the whole thing. He wanted to get to Raleigh and be done.

What we did

He filled out the form on our website on a Thursday. We talked on Monday, and came out to see the house on Tuesday. (Met the dog, too.)

The house needed some work — a roof soon, though it wasn’t leaking; the soffit had come off the front; older windows, kitchen, and bathroom. Newer furnace and hot water heater. None of that changes anything for us. We buy the house the way it sits.

Our offer was simple: buy it as-is, no repairs, close on a date that worked around both of their moves, and he could leave whatever he didn’t want to deal with — we’d take care of it. If he needed a hand getting his own things into the car, we’d help with that too.

She left for the new job in the middle of May. We closed the first week of June, right around when he was set to head down himself. About six weeks from his first message to the closing table.

How it ended

The house closed the first week of June and he was free to head south. No listing, no repairs, and he didn’t have to clean it out.
